The Award is named in honor of Ralph Bunche who was a United Nations mediator and 1950 Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Recognition is given for outstanding academic achievement to undergraduate students of African and African American descent.
The Outstanding Faculty Award is given to exemplary faculty mentors that have made significant contributions to the quality of life and professional development of students in the Washington University Graduate School.
Robert Barrett, Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Philosophy Department, has passed away. Bob received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in the 1961. In the 1960s, Washington University hired Richard Rudner, then editor of Philosophy of Science, to rebuild the WU Philosophy Department with a concentration on philosophy of science.
